Fr. Richard Baumann, S.J.

Fr. Richard is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, born in 1946, attended St. Francis Xavier High School, entered the Society of Jesus in 1964, and was ordained in 1975. He received an MDiv from the Jesuit School of Theology of Loyola University, Chicago, and a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Ohio State University. As a member of the Midwest USA Province, he has served as vocation director, novice director, pastor, and provincial superior. More recently he worked in Africa for fourteen years: six years as director of Ignatian programming and faculty member at Arrupe University’s Jesuit First Studies Philosophy/Humanities program in Harare, Zimbabwe, and eight years as co-director of a Tertianship program (a renewal program for Jesuits before they pronounce final vows) located in Ghana and now in Nairobi, Kenya. Once again, he’s currently a pastor, at Sacred Heart Church in Detroit, Michigan. Besides giving various talks and retreats related to Ignatian spirituality, in the last ten years he has given many eight-day retreats, based upon the Jesuit Constitutions, in the United States and elsewhere, both to Jesuits in initial formation and those beyond final vows.
