Administration Commission | Responsible for the finances, budget, buildings and property of the parish |
Altar Servers | Boys and girls who serve as a lay assistant to a priest during Mass. An altar server attends to supporting tasks at the altar during the liturgy. Altar servers serve during most liturgies, especially on Sunday. |
Alumni | Former students of Sacred Heart School This group was organized for fellowship and support of the parish. |
Arts Committee | Responsible for promoting an appreciation of the fine arts, the work of local artists, as we as artists work for the parish |
Body & Spirit Dance Adult Ministry | An adult dance group that ministers to the parish several times a year |
Book Club | Promotes literature appreciation by reading and having group discussions |
Cancer Support Team | Supports members of the parish family who have been diagnosed with cancer as well as grief support to families that have been effected by the disease |
Choir | Adults, teens and children choirs of the parish |
Community Affairs | Deals with peace, justice, legal, social services, human rights, civil rights issues |
Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance | A non-profit organization that works in areas of housing, economic development, community action, anti-racism work, and ha san active senior network |
Economic Development Commission | Serves as a resource for business promotion, growth and startup. Our goal is to provide assistance to the community’s poor and disenfranchised through Sacred Heart-owned businesses and other endeavors. |
Education Commission | Encourages the pursuit of education advances for all in the parish from the youngest to the oldest. Supports a wide rage of programming to promote education, especially in terms of black history. |
Employment Resource Committee | Provides job placement, job upgrades, interviewing skills, preparing resumes, preparation for world of work, youth summer jobs |
Faithful Few | A group of parishioners who promote fellowship and gives back to the parish in a variety of ways |
Friends of the Bereaved | Provides and serves the repast meal to families after funerals |
Friends of the Sick & Shut In | Assists the pastor in continual visits to the sick and homebound parishioners |
New Generation Dance Ministry | A generational dance ministry from 14 to 80 years of age. Ministering in the parish and outreach to nursing homes and other dance ministries. |
Haiti Committee | Responsible for continued education to our congregation about the works and needs of the people of Haiti, especially our sister parish St. Hubert. |
Health Task Force | Promotes the heath and wellbeing of the parish community |
Inter Faith Golden Circle | A community driven group of seasoned adults 55 and older who gather monthly for fellowship and friendship |
Intonjane | A Rites of Passage program for young ladies ages 7-18 years old |
Junior Daughters | A Catholic Soror Organization of female youths ages 7-18 years affiliated with the Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver |
Junior Knights | A Catholic Fraternal Organization of male youths 7-18 years affiliated with the Knights of Peter Claver |
Knights of Peter Claver, Inc. | Catholic Fraternal organization whose purpose is to render service to God and His Holy Church, render aid and assistance to the sick and disabled, and promote social and intellectual association among our members |
Ladies Auxiliary of St. Peter Claver | Catholic Soror organization of women to promote individual and community service and faith |
Management Team | Oversees the ongoing maintenance repairs, contracted services of the parish facilities and personnel oversight |
Men of Isuthu | A Rites of Passage program for young men ages 8-18 years old |
Ministers of Faith | Women’s organization to serve in the parish and community as co-workers in ministry to the pastor |
Ministers of Service | Men’s organization to serve in the parish and community as co-workers in ministry to the pastor |
Religious Education | Holds weekly religion (catechetic) classes for youth); also responsible for the content of both the Youth and Teen Churches as well as the on going formation of our Catechist |

Social Affairs Commission | Responsible for planning and implementing the social events of the parish including but not limited to the parish picnic |
St. Vincent DePaul | Provides food, clothing and assistance for those in need. This service is rendered on 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesdays of a month |
Usher Board | The first face of hospitality when someone enters this parish. They assume all the duties of an usher at all liturgies, including funerals and concerts |
Video Ministry | Responsible for training, educating and being of service to the parish community by providing videos of events in the life of the parish, especially to our homebound members |
Worship Commission | Responsible for planning and executing the various worship services in the parish. The major areas of concern and music, hospitality and environment |
Youth Council | Teens and young adults who gather to plan events both spiritual and social for the youth in our parish; while also bringing concern to the needs of the youth in our church |
Youth Liturgical Dancers | Teens dance ministry, which ministers to the parish community several times a year in Mass while also hosting an annual dance concert |
